Why Cooking Is a Good Way to Learn English ?

Cooking is a daily activity that can easily support children’s English learning at home. When children help in the kitchen, they hear and use real English words while doing meaningful actions. Cooking creates a relaxed and enjoyable environment where learning happens naturally. With a little guidance, mothers can turn simple cooking moments into valuable language learning experiences.

How Mothers Can Support Learning During Cooking

Mothers can involve children in safe and simple cooking tasks such as washing fruits, mixing ingredients, or arranging food. While cooking, parents can use easy English words and short instructions such as mix, pour, cut, stir, soft, sweet, hot, cold.

Repeating these words during actions helps children understand meaning clearly. Asking simple questions like “What is this?” or “Is it sweet?” encourages children to speak and respond in English.

My Experience as a Parent

At home, my child enjoys cooking activities very much, specially making pancakes. We have tried many simple recipes together such as magic corn, omelette , doughnut ...etc. And I noticed that he learned new words quickly while helping me in the kitchen. Words like mix, pan, hot, and sweet became familiar through repeated use. I personally believe that cooking helps children learn language naturally because it connects words with real actions and experiences. To make this learning experience more meaningful, I have also included a short video of my child.

How Cooking Improves English Learning
